Katy Perry is set for a busy few weeks as her new album has been ‘unavoidably delayed’ leading to its release possibly clashing with the birth of her first child.

The 35-year-old singer is expecting a baby with her fiancée, actor Orlando Bloom, and had promised fans that her latest album, Smile, would be released on August 14.

She has now taken to social media to apologise to her followers that the release has now been pushed back to August 28, with “unavoidable production delays” being blamed as the reason.

Posting on Instagram a photo of what looks like a custard pie about to be planted into her face, Katy told her fans: “Welp. I hate to throw this bad news at you like a pie in the face… but if there’s anything 2020 taught me, it’s to not get too attached to plans and be malleable.”

Katy continued: “Due to unavoidable production delays, my album #SMILE will now be released (two) weeks later on August 28.”

Smile’s album cover features the singer in clown makeup.

Perry also announced a new series called Smile Sundays, which will take place weekly until the album is released or until she gives birth.

The chart-topping singer said the series will feature her broadcasting live for 30 minutes to discuss the album as well as having “a good chat”.

Katy added: “Thanks for being so flexible in this time… it’s a wild one, for sure, but I hope the patience will be worth the wait!”

The album delay comes after news that the couple were forced to delay their wedding day due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis news of their pregnancy.

She revealed to US Radio: “You can’t plan anymore in 2020 because those plans are always cancelled. We just want to deliver a healthy child. Everyone has to take life one week at a time right now.”
