Simon Cowell is gaining weight and breaking his strict vegan diet to aid his post-op recovery after breaking his back, his pal Sinitta has claimed.
The 61-year-old telly mogul fell off an electric bicycle in early August and was had to undergo intensive surgery to fix his broken spine.
The dad-of-one has stunned fans with his bounce back so far after he was snapped back on his feet and walking around shopping for the first time earlier this week.
Simon recently shed 60 pounds as part of a lifestyle makeover, but he has now put on some weight and is feeling much healthier, according to his longtime pal Sinitta.
She claims her friend, who lives in California with his partner Lauren Silverman and their son, has added more protein to his vegan diet to facilitate his recovery.
Speaking about his weight gain, Sinitta told The Sun : “I spoke to him last week and he sounded so much better.
“He wasn’t dazed, sedated or weak. He was really bright, happy and clear.
“He’s gained a bit of weight and is looking healthier. He said he had to start eating protein, calcium and break his vegan diet to rebuild his strength.”
The singer continued: “That’s the wisest thing. He was bloated and stressed, then he was too thin and exhausted.
“Now he is fit and relaxed. He’s found his sweet spot.
“He sounds relieved and exhilarated. The sea air is so healing and rejuvenating.”
Simon was seen for the first time since his accident at his 61st birthday party earlier this month.
He appeared on the Instagram Stories of close pal and ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour as they marked his big day with a cake.
In footage filmed by Terri, who dated Simon between 2002 and 2008, her daughter Coco and Simon’s son Eric, both five, are beside themselves with excitement as they sing Happy Birthday.
The star was only seen sat in a chair in the footage shared from the bash.
Simon’s terrifying accident has reportedly made him realise that he isn’t invincible as he counts his blessings that he is on the road to recovery.
A friend of Simon’s told The Daily Mail : “He definitely no longer feels invincible and this has been a wake up for him about his health and lifestyle.
“He was nearly paralysed and feels lucky to be recovering at all.”
And it’s claimed the life-changing incident has lead him to consider finally popping the question to his girlfriend Lauren Silverman – who he has been in a relationship with since 2013.
The source added: “The fall was of life-changing seriousness.
“Some in his circle think it might even make him think again about making a commitment of marriage to Lauren.
“Never say never.”
