Clare Balding revealed that she has lost around 90 per cent of her hearing and has accidentally shouted at her wife without realising.

The 49-year-old sports presenter was chatting to Great British Bake Off star Mel Giedroyc when she opened up about her hearing struggles.

Clare’s hearing was so bad, that the television star even struggled during her interview on Mel Giedroyc: Unforgiveable.

Chatting on the upcoming interview, Clare revealed that her wife, Alice Arnold, 57, sometimes urged her to keep her voice down.

“I really need to get my ears done. I’m at about ten per cent and I guess the rest,” she explained during the show.

“My wife keeps saying to me, “Stop shouting!” because I’m clearly over-projecting because I can’t hear myself,” she continued.

At one point in the interview, Mel asked a question to which Clare simply replied with: “what?” which saw the audience erupt in laughter.

Earlier this week, Clare revealed that her father had been left “flabbergasted” when she landed her first BBC job.

Speaking on Paul McKenna’s podcast, the popular television host admitted that her dad didn’t believe she could be a successful presenter because she is a woman.

Despite her dad’s reservations, Clare has since enjoyed a fruitful television career that spanned 25 years and counting.

The presenter noted that she was initially ‘angry’ at her parents, but that it made her even more determined to achieve her dreams.

“I was very angry at my parents for their lack of acknowledgements for women’s achievements and that made me really determined to do the things that maybe they thought women couldn’t do,” Clare explained.

“I remember when I first presented Grandstand on the BBC my father being absolutely flabbergasted.

“He didn’t realise that was something any women could do let alone me,” she added.
