Gogglebox star Mary Killen has told how featuring on the show with her husband Giles Wood brought them closer together and “saved their marriage”.

Mary told how the pair, who have nicknamed each other ‘Nutty’, were like “ships that pass in the night” before they joined the cast of the Channel 4 show.

Mary said: “Giles and I were like ships that pass in the night. I got up early, he went to bed late and we rarely even ate together.

“Sitting down and watching television reminded us how much we enjoyed the same jokes.

Mary also told how the pair, who live in Wiltshire, coped during coronavirus lockdown.

Mary said: “Lockdown wasn’t a great hardship for us; more like an open prison with comfortable beds, but I know a few couples who have split up because they have decided they can’t stand one another.”

The couple have become stars since their first appearance on Gogglebox and are loved by fans for their entertaining personalities.

Mary claims Giles has selective deafness when she calls him in from the garden and said she gets cross when he “lurks” in doorways.

The couple, who are in their 50s and have two grown-up children, met at Wimbledon College of Art where Giles was a student more than three decades ago and Mary was a costume model.

Speaking of their relationship, Mary said they call each other ‘Nutty’ because they both consider the other to be a “bit mad”.

She told the Telegraph Giles has “multiple personality disorder” meaning he’s “all sorts of people” including a “bit of a genius”.

She added that the truth is they’re “both neurotic”.

Last month Gogglebox fans were sent into a meltdown after Mary debuted a perfect Jeremy Clarkson impression.

The cast sat down for a nail-biting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? episode, which saw contestant Donald Fear triumph and take home the £1 million prize.

Host Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t believe what he was seeing as Donald calmly answered the million-pound question with complete ease.

And after Mary had a crack at impersonating Jeremy, fans went into meltdown.

One tweeted: “Mary’s impression of Jeremy Clarkson was absolutely spot on.”

“I liked Mary’s impression of Clarkson…. #gogglebox,” another remarked.
