Rachel Riley has been forced to apologise after she joked about Wiley and Jedward collaborating together.

The 34-year-old Countdown presenter, who identifies as Jewish, had taken to social media in response to Wiley’s slew of ‘unprompted and anti-semitic tweets’.

It came after the grime artist tried to link the Jewish community to the Ku Klux Klan.

In her post, the mum of one also made a reference to Jedward and suggested the rapper could have ended his career with a collaboration with the twins instead.

The Irish duo quickly noticed that they had been named on social media and furiously called out the television star over her remarks.

The tweet that sparked frustration from Jedward spoke about how Wiley could have ended his career.

“He could have just done a duet with Jedward if he was that keen to end his career,” Rachel wrote.

“An unprompted, still going, public antisemitic breakdown is a bizarre route to go down.”

The X Factor duo quickly hit back with their own response: “You are a patron for a Center for Countering Digital Hate?’ they wrote.

“And yet here you are spreading Hate!! As anti bullying ambassadors we don’t approve of this!”

Following the exchange, John and Edward told the Mirror: “As anti bullying ambassadors for the Princess Diana Trust we felt obligated to comment on Rachel’s Tweet, in the hope that she would realise that it was hurtful to us.

“We would hope that someone who has taken on a similar anti bullying ambassadorship would have known better than to pass a comment such as this.

“However, we understand that people sometimes say and do things they may not always mean or do not understand the impact it can have in others. We hope Rachel is taking this opportunity to grow from this situation and in future will think before she tweets.

A representative for Rachel has been contacted for comment.

Rachel apologised for her remarks before swiftly deleting the original message.

She also tried to explain that the statement was made in jest because they were the ‘least grime artists’ she could think of.

In a later post she added: “Apologies to @planetjedward, totally flippant joke about them not being particularly grime and no offence intended.

“Good meme below though, they’re nice boys and I didn’t think of the cumulative impact of jokes.”

Alongside the message, she shared a statement that spoke about the importance of recognising the unintended impacts of jokeson other people.

Rachel’s statements come as the music world was left stunned after Wiley unleashed an ‘anti-semitic’ rant on Friday.

The artist has reportedly been banned from Twitter for seven days.
