Dermot O’ Leary has caused quite a frenzy by sharing an old picture of himself from the 1980s.

Dressed in a bicep-baring white vest and rocking spikey blond hair, young Dermot looked like quite the dreamboat in the throwback snap.

The star shared the image to mark the 80s takeover on BBC Radio 2 today, as he hosted the special edition of his show.

After the image went live on Instagram, Dermot’s comment section became flooded with compliments from his excited fans.

‘Yowser!!!! We all met this guy back in the day. The mysterious brooding lad about holiday complex, too cool to be with his parents. The boy you really wanted to see at the pool and be a pen friend with,” said one.

“What a hunk!!” another cried.

Others compared a young Dermot to late actor Corey Haim and many more suggested he wouldn’t have looked out of place in boyband Bros with his dashing locks and flash of bleached hair.

As well as sharing the snap of his teenage self, Dermot continued to get into the 80s spirit by then posting a video of himself dancing along to Hi-Fedility from the Fame soundtrack in the BBC studios.

Dermot started his career as a DJ for BBC Essex before landing his first TV job in front of the camera on Channel 4 youth show T4.

He then progressed to Big Brother’s Little Brother but his big break came in 2007 when it was announced he would replaced Kate Thornton as the host of The X Fator.

Ten years later Dermot took over BBC Radio 2’s Saturday morning slot where he continues to draw in listeners on the weekends.

In July this year, Dermot used his show to announce the name of his new baby son Kasper.

The 47-year-old presenter returned to the airwaves ten days after his producer wife Dee Koppang, 41, gave birth to their first child.

“My lovely son came into the world ten days ago accompanied by Guy Garvey’s Elbow,” said Dermot, sharing with listeners the soundtrack to Dee’s labour.

“So forgive this moment of brief self-indulgence while we play the song that accompanied that.

“So, this is for you Kasper with a K… my wife is very insistent on that,” laughed Dermot.

“Kasper Koppang O’Leary welcome to the world” cried the proud dad before pressing play on Elbow’s hit One Day Like This.
