Mindy Kaling surprised fans this week when she revealed she had secretly become a mother for the second time during lockdown.
The 41-year-old actress first became a mother in December 2017 with the arrival of her daughter, Katherine Swati.
While she became a mother for the second time on 3 September when she welcomed a son named Spencer – although she didn’t share the happy news with the rest of the world until Thursday when she announced it during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Now the American actress and comedienne has opened up about experiencing the majority of her pregnancy during the pandemic.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, the star explained that she had a new appreciation for emergency workers – and said she found it “scary” to be pregnant during the global health crisis.
She tweeted: “Thanks to everyone for your kind words about the new addition to my family.
“Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk.
“Spencer is happy and healthy and his sister is obsessed with him (well, his toys).
“It’s been so fun having him in the house, I almost forget I’m outnumbered now. Love and grateful hugs.”
Mindy has not revealed who the father of either her children is – however both have fellow US actor BJ Novak as a godfather.
Mindy recently opened up about dating as a single parent in her new book titled Nothing Like I Imagined (Except For Sometimes).
She wrote of being single: “Sometimes it’s the most liberating and lucky feeling in the world.
“Sometimes I am just so grateful to be an independent woman doing what I want, when I want, that I could cry with gratitude.”
She also hinted she might struggle to share parenting her children with another – as it would complicate her already streamlined approach to parenting.
