Strictly Come Dancing bosses are ensuring they support the celebrity contestants and judges as much as they can this year.

The BBC show leads to a big spotlight being placed on the stars taking part – which can often result in them being trolled.

And a show insider has told that in a bid to protect the famous faces from abuse the channel have often ” intercepted hate mail” and the 2020 series will have a “lot of support in place” for the line-up to feel safe.

“Although the majority of viewers are amazing some can be cruel and there has been some horrendous trolling over the years,” a source told The Sun.

They added: “Producers have often intercepted hate mail sent to those taking part. The show has a lot of support in place to make sure that everyone gets the help they need to just focus on the dancing and enjoy being on the programme.”

Mirror Online have contacted a rep for Strictly Come Dancing for comment.

It comes after Strictly Come Dancing could face the axe if the UK goes into a national lockdown.

Already this year’s contestant HRVY tested positive for coronavirus, just weeks away from the beginning of the show.

The hit BBC dancing show could be in jeopardy amid fears the whole of the UK could plunge into another lockdown while coronavirus cases spike.

If there is a local London lockdown, claims emerged bosses will ask for a special request to continue with the show.

Strictly bosses reportedly cannot delay the show until early next year because they won’t have access to their usual studios at that given time.

A source told The Sun : “The BBC are fully prepared to axe this series of Strictly if a full lockdown happens.

“They couldn’t even delay the show until early next year because of a number of issues, including them being unable to use their usual studios. While everyone is hopeful it won’t happen, preparations have been made if it does.

“Everyone working on the show has done their utmost to keep it on air and if a local lockdown happens in London, where the studios are, Strictly bosses will ask for special dispensation to see if they can continue.”
