Alesha Dixon hits back at Mis-Teeq bandmate Sabrina’s royalties lawsuit
The Britain’s Got Talent judge’s former Mis-Teeq bandmate Sabrina Washington has launched legal proceedings against her
Alesha Dixon has fired back at her former Mis-Teeq bandmate’s lawsuit by claiming that she deserves more money -because she wrote her own rap verses.
This week it was reported that Sabrina Washington had launched legal proceedings against the Britain’s Got Talent judge and record label Universal over the royalties of some of the band’s biggest hits.
Sabrina, who starred in the girlband with Alesha and Su-Elise Nash before they split in 2005, is said to have accused Alesha of ‘wrongfully claiming’ songwriting royalties for singles Why and All I Want.
Today a spokesperson for Alesha has hit out at the suggestion by saying the singer/rapper contributed most to the songs.
The rep explained: “Alesha wrote the raps on both Why and All I Want and that is why she gets a split, the rest of the song was written by a production team… Sabrina has no reason to sue Alesha.”
They added to MailOnline : “Sabrina was the lead vocalist, but certainly not the main writer.
“In terms of the entire Mis-Teeq catalogue, Alesha does receive a larger share as she contributed more the the songs, including writing all the raps.”
The pair also fell out when their management stopped Sabrina from appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2006 – only for Alesha to win the show the following the year.
Instead Sabrina went on to compete on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2009 where she was eliminated fifth.
An insider close to the pair told The Sun that seeing Alesha’s success on Britain’s Got Talent had been another blow for Sabrina after she was denied reality TV stardom on Strictly.
“It is war. Sabrina had to play second fiddle for years,” claimed the source.
