San Francisco 49ers offensive stars Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle are expected to miss extended time after suffering injuries in Sunday’s game, according to multiple reports.
Garoppolo has a lingering high ankle sprain and Kittle will be out eight weeks with a small fracture in his foot, per ESPN and NFL Network. ESPN reported that Garoppolo will be sidelined at least six weeks and maybe longer if surgery is required. Garoppolo first suffered the ankle injury in Week 2 and it has been bothering him since. He left Sunday’s 37-27 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the second half and was replaced by Nick Mullens.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan initially said Sunday that Kittle’s injury wasn’t serious, but further testing revealed the fracture on Monday.
Kittle, 27, missed two games earlier this season with a knee injury. The two-time Pro Bowl selection has 37 catches for 474 yards and two touchdowns. He had two catches Sunday for 39 yards.
Garoppolo, who turned 29 on Monday, passed for 84 yards with an interception at Seattle before leaving. He has completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 1,096 yards with seven scores and five picks in six games this season.
The 49ers are 4-4 and sit last in the NFC West. They play host to the Green Bay Packers (5-2) on Thursday night. –Field Level Media ()
