Kay Burley has been called out for criticising Prime Minister Boris Johnson shortly after she was accused of breaking lockdown rules.

The veteran Sky News presenter has come under fire in recent days after she “inadvertently broke the rules” while celebrating her upcoming 60th birthday over the weekend.

Now, Kay’s recent criticisms of social distancing have been unearthed as Twitter users flocked to share their thoughts about the Sky presenter’s recent behaviour.

Just last month, Kay had actually questioned Boris Johnson’s social-distancing when he was pictured next to the MP Lee Anderson – who then tested positive for Covid-19.

“Doesn’t look like two shopping trolleys apart to me. What do you think?” Kay said at the time.

A social media user appears to have since spun the tweet on its head, branding Kay a “hypocrite” for also not being that far apart from her dinner guests.

“I think you should resign because you weren’t 9 shopping trollers away from @BethRigby and co the other night were you #KayBurley. You absolute hypocrite. #SackKayBurley,” penned one user.

Others have also called on Kay “to go” following her birthday stint.

Earlier this week, Kay took to social media to explain what had happened over the weekend.

In the two social media posts, Kay apologised after enjoying a birthday meal at a “Covid compliant” restauraunt.

The reporter admitted that she was “embarrassed” that the later broke the rules.

“I had been waiting for a taxi at 11pm to get home. Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise,” she wrote in the tweet.

Sky has confirmed that there is now an internal investigation underway following Kay’s birthday meal, that was also reportedly attended by Beth Rigby, Inzamam Rashid and Sam Washington.
