Johnny Depp ‘threw phone’ at Amber Heard and slapped her over marriage-ending poo
Amber Heard claims Johnny Depp attacked her a month after he found poo in their marital bed, which she says was left there by their dogs
Johnny Depp threw a phone at Amber Heard’s face before yanking her by the hair and slapping her, a court has heard.
Heard opened up about the aftermath of Depp finding the poo in their marital bed, which he believes was left by her or a friend but she says was done by one of their dogs.
The actress, 34, was giving her testimony in the first day of the third week of Depp’s trial against NGN, which Depp is suing for libel over a 2018 The Sun article in which he was called a “wife beater”.
Depp, 57, strenuously denies being abusive towards his ex-wife.
In her witness statement Heard claimed Depp attacked her in May 2016, just over a month after finding the poo and just days after his mum died.
Heard said she was alone in their apartment on May 21 when Depp walked in and she believes he was drunk or high.
She said: “Johnny was becoming very angry with me, making accusations over ‘Poopgate’. I couldn’t believe he was getting so worked up about this ridiculous story when we hadn’t seen each other for a month and his mother had just died.”
They called up Depp’s estate manager Kevin Murphy who claimed Heard had admitted to leaving the poo as a prank.
Heard continued: “I was getting worried for my safety, as Johnny was getting more and more aggressive towards me about Poopgate.”
She then called iO Tillet Wright, who Depp suspected of leaving the poo.
Heard said: “I put iO on speakerphone and told iO what Johnny was saying and asked him to explain the truth.
“iO laughed at how ridiculous the accusation was and Johnny became enraged, ripping the phone from my hand and began screaming insults at iO.
“He then tossed the phone away and stormed upstairs. I retrieved the phone and iO shouted over the line that I had to get out of the house.
“Johnny rushed back down the stairs and grabbed the phone and started screaming into the phone at iO. That was the moment he wound up his arm back like he was a baseball pitcher and threw the phone at my face as hard as he could.
“The phone hit me in the right cheek and eye. I covered my face and was crying with pain. I told Johnny that he had hit me in the face.”
The court was shown pictures of Heard’s red face which she says was as a result of the phone being thrown at her.
She claims she told Depp how he had hurt her but she continued to attack.
Heard added: “[He] charged at me, grabbing my hair and started yanking and jerking my head around. As I tried to get up from the sofa he was slapping and shaking me.”
Heard says the attack ended when Depp’s friends came by and intervened.
Lawyers for NGN are defending their case based on Heard’s 14 allegations of abuse, which include claims of bust-ups between 2013 and 2016.
