Catherine Tyldesley says it hurt her when she had to stop breastfeeding her son Alfie after just six weeks.
The former Coronation Street favourite has opened up about her experiences as a mother for National Breastfeeding week.
Catherine, 36, revealed allowing him to feed from her left the actress with serious migraines due to a dip in the hormone estrogen.
Estrogen levels fall at delivery and remain low for the first several months of breastfeeding, and a drop in the hormone can cause migraine.
She said women should only do what they want when it comes to feeding babies, report the Manchester Evening News.
Catherine, whose son with photographer Tom Pitfield is now five, told her followers on Instagram that she had ‘hideous’ migraines with aura where the sufferer has warning signs just before the migraine begins, such as seeing flashing lights.
But Cath, who played Eva Price on the cobbles from 2011 to 2018, says she will always cherish those weeks breastfeeding.
She wrote: “I had to stop breastfeeding Alfie after six weeks.
“Due to the estrogen dip it gave me the most hideous migraines with aura … but I will forever cherish those weeks of breastfeeding.”
In a message to fellow mums she added: “Ladies – HOWEVER you’re feeding your baby … it’s what is best for YOU, and you’re doing a BRILLIANT job.”
One mum replied: “Breasted my girl for 22 months, was the best thing ever. Breastfed my twin boys for three days then formula, best thing ever. It’s what works for you and baby.”
And another said: “It really upset me to stop breastfeeding but I now know that it didn’t make me a bad mom at all.”
And a midwife told her: “Best post I’ve seen for breastfeeding awareness!!! Well done from a midwife who only breastfed her babies for 18 weeks tops x”
Catherine recently shared a photo of herself as Eva holding her on-screen daughter Susie in scenes from Corrie two years ago.
In a dramatic storyline Eva gave birth in secret after agreeing to give her daughter to Toyah Battersby, whose surrogate had miscarried the baby she longed for with Peter Barlow.
Toyah later had a change of heart and handed the baby back to Eva after her former fiance Aidan Connor took his own life.
Eva then left the cobbles to start a new life in France.
