Will Smith issues apology to Chris Rock

Will Smith is tipped to be welcomed by Hollywood back in from the cold after he was ostracised after slapping Chris Rock live on stage at the Oscars.

The celebrity world was stunned back in March when 53-year-old Will stormed the stage and slapped 57-year-old Chris square in the face after the comedian made an ill-judged joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith, 50.

While the live A-List audience and viewers watching from home were shocked by the abrupt scene of violence - although Will did minutes later go on to be crowned Best Actor at the awards.

But following the prestigious win, reports suggested his career would take a major hit - with planned deals with streaming giants Netflix and Apple abruptly halted.

But now reports are suggesting that the tide is turning in Will’s favour just four months later, with a source telling The Sun: “Will was left out in the cold by Netflix and Apple+ in the wake of the slap.

"He has since apologised and stepped out of the spotlight for a lengthy period. With this in mind it is broadly agreed enough time has passed to let the dust settle.

"It has been made clear discussions can be started again about a biopic which Netflix were interested in.

"Arguably, the slap, and the fallout, are pivotal moments in Will’s life and will become part of the storyline of his life.”

Chris leapt into violent action at the 94th Academy Awards in March this year after Chris joked about Jada’s bald head.

The actress had shaved off her locks in response to suffering from the condition alopecia.

Will eventually apologised publicly to Chris for slapping him in the face.

He said in a video that was shared via Facebook last month: "I am human and I made a mistake and I'm trying not to think of myself as a piece of s**t.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out.

“So I will say to you, Chris, ‘I apologise to you’. My behaviour was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you are ready to talk.”

Oscars bosses had condemned Wills actions shortly after the incident in March, releasing a statement about the slap.

The statement read: "The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night's show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law."
