Vicky Pattison says she ‘self-sabotaged’ with alcohol after I’m a Celeb win

Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison has opened up about her relationship with drinking, admitting she's terrified of going down the same path as her dad John who is an alcoholic

Vicky Pattison has spoken candidly about her relationship with alcohol, admitting she "self-sabotaged" after winning I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

The reality star, 34, had everything she wanted after winning the ITV show back in 2015, but has said she still wasn't happy and began to drink excessively.

Vicky's dad John is an alcoholic and she opens up about her fears of following in his footsteps in her upcoming Channel 4 documentary Vicky Pattison: My Dad, Alcohol And Me.

"I had everything I’d ever wanted and I still wasn’t happy, I was self-sabotaging with alcohol and I knew I was going to lose everything I’d worked for.

"I thought to myself, ‘If you don’t take control of your actions, you’re going to end up alone and like your dad,’ which has always been my greatest fear," she told OK! ahead of her documentary's release.

Vicky added: "I had the world at my feet. I had a glamorous job, I’d just won the Jungle, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. I was really struggling."

She said the more she struggled, the more reliant she was on drinking.

Now, she is concerned about the damage her drinking has done to her body and is worried that she is destined to be an alcoholic.

In her touching documentary, the TV personality explores the medical and psychological sides to alcoholism.

Vicky looks at how genes and behaviour can lead to a predisposition to addiction and learns about how best to support her dad.

Speaking in the documentary, she says: "We all need a bit of tough love.

"It’s so hard to be that person to someone you love, because you do just want to be the best daughter to them, the best sibling, the best whatever.

"But actually, sometimes being the best daughter or being the best father is delivering some painful home truths."

Vicky rose to fame as a party girl on Geordie shore when she was in her mid-20s.

"I am a people pleaser and I want to be what everyone wants me to be,” she says, describing how hard it has been to shake ‘that version of Vicky from Geordie Shore’.

In the hour-long documentary, Vicky undergoes medical screening to find out if her lifestyle has done irreparable damage and to assess her psychological approach to alcohol.

She compares this to her dad's alcoholism, confronting some uncomfortable truths about her own relationship with alcohol and about her dad’s health.

Vicky Pattison: My Dad, Alcohol And Me will air on Tuesday, August 2 on Channel 4 and All 4.
