Ubisoft Confirms That Far Cry 6 Will Offer 4K On The PS4 Pro And The PS5

Recently, Ubisoft caused some confusion, as a marketing message for Far Cry 6 implied that the game will only be available in 4K on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. However, Ubisoft has since told Cultured Vultures that 4K will be available on all platforms, not just Microsoft’s consoles.

“To clarify, Far Cry 6 will be available in 4K on PS5, PS4 Pro and PC,” said Ubisoft. “Further details will be available at a later date.”

Since the game’s cover art was leaked online, longtime Far Cry fans have speculated that the boy in the sixth game’s trailer is Vaas, who was one of the villains in the third game who presumably died at its halfway mark, thus making the sixth game a prequel to the third. As of this writing, Ubisoft hasn’t responded to any of the fan theories, but for now, the common belief is that their newest first-person open-world game will, in fact, be a prequel to the third game.

Far Cry 6 takes place in a fictional country, Yara, which is heavily inspired by Cuba in the 1960s. Shortly after the game was officially revealed during the Ubisoft Forward event, the game’s narrative director, Navid Khavari, talked about why they wanted to recreate the vibe of Cuba in the 60s.

“For our island of Yara, not only did we want to tell a story of a modern guerrilla revolution, but also we want to tell a story about an island that is almost frozen in time, like a living postcard from the ‘60s that players can experience and walk through,” said Khavari. “The dynamic of having this beautiful, idyllic sort of ‘living postcard,’ with the vintage cars, the picturesque landscapes, the mountains, the water, the capital city.”

During a recent interview with HypeBeast, Giancarlo Esposito, who will play the game’s main villain, said that he shot multiple takes for “multiple different endgames,” which suggests that, like with other games in the series, Far Cry 6 will have multiple endings.

As of right now, we don’t know when we’ll get more details regarding Far Cry 6, but given that it’s scheduled to be released in February, we should see gameplay from it sometime soon.

Far Cry 6 is currently scheduled to be released on all platforms — Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC — on February 18, 2021, and as previously noted, all platforms will be capable of showing the game in 4K.
