A US TV news anchor has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking a man with a glass bottle during a disagreement over politics
A TV news reporter has been arrested for allegedly smashing a beer bottle over a man's head during an argument about politics.
Kamie Jo Roesler, 28, from Columbia, South Carolina, is a former anchor for KSFY-TV news and now works for WIS-TV in Columbia.
She has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly striking a man with a glass bottle outside a bar in Sioux Falls on Sunday afternoon.
A 32-year-old man from Colton refused attention from emergency responders and sought medical treatment elsewhere.
Speaking at a Sioux Falls Police briefing, spokesman Sam Clemens said: "We had a few people that were there and two of them began arguing.
"They know each other, they're not in any type of relationship.
"The victim said it was some type of political argument, the [suspect] ended up grabbing a beer bottle swinging it out and hitting the victim in the head.
"Paramedics came but [the man] refused medical treatment. He was going to go on see a doctor on his own.
"It looked like he was going to need stitches. The suspect was arrested for the aggravated assault."
Roesler previously worked at KSFY for five years before transferring to sister station WIS, where she works as the early morning news anchor.
She's been with the station since September 2019.
The State reports bosses at WIS-TV confirmed they are aware of the incident but have no further comment.
