Orlando Bloom has made a furry new addition to the family after his pooch Mighty ran away.

The actor, 43, was left distraught when his beloved dog went missing in July and was found dead following a seven-day search.

What should have been one of the happiest times of his life, in preparation for his baby girl with then-pregnant Katy Perry, turned out to be a "waking nightmare".

The British star paid tribute to his late pooch with a gorgeous inking of his dog's name on his chest.

And now the new dad has found himself ready to open his broken heart up to a new furry friend.

On Tuesday, Orlando introduced his fans to his new pup Buddy in a sweet Instagram post.

He shared a sweet snap of the little white dog sleeping snuggled up to him in bed.

Bloom introduced him, captioning the adorable picture: “Plz meet BUDDY a one year old something & something mix.”

The actor told followers how he was fostering the pooch but that he had won his heart.

Orlando went on to add: “Nothing can replace mighty man, but fostering this little guy has really filled my heart - if you've never fostered or are considering, I'd highly recommend it - it leaves two beings better off & remember what they say never judge a book by its cover.”

He shared a second snap of the dog before he’d been fostered by the Lord of the Rings star, where he was seen looking ungroomed and shaggy.

Orlando thanked the dog rescuers who helped him find his “best buddy”.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star informed his fans in July he had found his late dog's collar following a mass seven-day search for the teacup poodle, which included two sniffer dogs.

At the time he said he had cried more than he thought was humanly possible and turned over every hiding place in a bid to find his missing dog.

Announcing his dog’s passing, he wrote: "Mighty’s on the other side now. After 7 days of searching from sunrise to sunset and into the wee hours, today, the 7th day ~the number of completion~ we found his collar...

"I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing... I left no stone unturned, crawled thru all the man holes, under the roads, searched every back yard and creek bed.

"Had two separate sniffer dogs do their best as well. I feel so grateful to have learned from my little Mighty man that love is eternal and the true meaning of devotion."

In his lengthy tribute, Orlando gushed over his "soul connection" and "bond" with Mighty.

He added: "I feel sure he was looking down on me whistling in every back yard and knowing that I was doing all I possibly could to respect our bond.

"He was more than a companion. It was a soul connection for sure. I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you. RIP my MIGHTY HEART my little fellow A."
