If you grew up playing video games in the late 90s, you probably remember Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater very well. It was one of the most popular skateboarding games at the time and set the tone for many successful installments afterward.
Now after decades, the first two games are being rebooted. They’ll have better graphics, better gameplay, and a lot of new features. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is currently set to release on September 4, but before then, the Warehouse demo will be available August 14th to those that pre-order the game digitally.
So if you want to see how different the reboot is or want to have some nostalgia skating around the very first level featured in this iconic skateboarding series, then pre-ordering may be something worth considering.
To celebrate the Warehouse demo, a new trailer was just put out. It shows the Birdman himself shredding the Warehouse like no one else could. Visually, the game looks much better. There graphics are crisp and are exactly what you would want in 2020.
They should bring a new level of appreciation to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series as a whole. Looking back at the original game’s graphics, they are pretty dated by today’s standards. It was a brilliant move by Activision to go back in and polish some things up.
As far as gameplay, it looks to be a lot smoother as well. It is worth mentioning that this isn’t going to be one of the most realistic skateboarding simulations like Skater XL or Session. Instead, it has a very arcade feel.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. Back in the day, there was something special about pulling off unrealistic moves like superman and chaining insane combos together. You felt like an unstoppable force that was flying rather than skating. It looks like this reboot will have the same sort of gameplay, which is great if you enjoyed the original games.
It will be interesting to see what nuggets the developer Vicarious Visions has pulled out to further this series. Looking at all of the trailers, they seem to have nailed down the core elements of what make this series so special to begin with. Now they just need to tweak it a bit to get fans to come back after all of this time.
If this reboot is successful, we could possibly see more Tony Hawk games get rebooted. We shall see.
