Carole Baskin has hit back at Don Lewis' family after they shared an advert during the first episode of Dancing with the Stars.

The 59-year-old Tiger King star, who is competing on the celebrity dance show, branded the move a "huge publicity stunt."

Carole's ex husband Don Lewis went missing in 1997 before being pronounced legally dead in 2002.

His family decided to appeal for information into his disappearance in the advert before posing a question about whether Carole was involved.

Speaking about the advert following the show, Carole said she was unsurprised and dubbed the move a "huge publicity stunt."

“I am not at all surprised,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s just been a huge publicity stunt on their part so what more could they possibly do than that?”

She then added: “Spending time worrying about what I’m doing is probably not a really good use of your time. I’m not worried about what people say because even when they’re saying things that [are] negative, it’s keeping the conversation out there [about big cats] in the public eye.

“As long as I can keep that conversation out there, I can keep the cats in the spotlight and that’s my goal.”

Carole had been married to her second husband Don Lewis since 1991 until his disappearance.

His mysterious case was featured in the Netflix show, and some characters in the show appeared to imply Carole might know more than she was letting on.

The case into his disappearance was recently re-opened by the Sheriff's office.

During Monday's ad break, Don Lewis' three daughters appealed for information about their dad's death and also offered a reward of 100,000 (£77,800).

The family's lawyer also appeared in the clip and said: "Don Lewis mysteriously disappeared in 1997. His family deserves answers; they deserve justice. Do you know who did this or if Carole Baskin was involved?”

Carole is said to have been told about the advert just minutes before she went onto the dance floor where she performed to Eye Of The Tiger.
