The Killers halt Manchester gig as Brandon Flowers checks on crowd-surfing pensioner

The Killers had to unexpectedly put the breaks on their concert in Manchester on Saturday night after a plucky pensioner decided to go crowd surfing - causing frontman Brandon Flowers to check the rocker was alright

The Killers had to halt Old Trafford gig because pensioner wanted to 'enjoy himself'

Brandon Flowers had to stop The Killers' gig after a pensioner decided to go crowd surfing.

The American band were performing at Emirates Old Trafford near Manchester in front of an excited audience.

Fans loved the concert, which was sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale.

But half-way through, frontman Brandon, 40, came off stage.

Disturbed by witnessing what he thought was a fallen fan in the crowd, he realised it was an excited pensioner.

After the white-haired rocker was pulled to safety, the singer jumped into the pit and put his arm around him.

After asking the audience whether they thought crowd surfing was appropriate at his age, Brandon told the crowd: "I said Billy what ya doin'?"

Putting on his best Mancs accent, he explained: ""He told me 'I'm enjoyin' me self!"

The Killers were playing to an audience of 60,000, who were packed into the cricket ground to hear the Mr Brightside stars' greatest hits.

Brandon was resplendent rocking a tight-fitting suit and Chelsea boots.

Like so many entertainers, the Las Vegas band was forced to delay their tour in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Addressing the crowd last night Brandon said: "It's been a couple of funky years. This is a super spreader event...we are spreading love, we are spreading rock n roll."

The popular group have hit the headlines since rocking up in the UK.

A superfan was elated to be welcomed on stage for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when the band performed in Falkirk on Tuesday.

Scottish teacher Kyle Grieve was asked by Brandon to play one of the band's biggest hits.

The drumming instructor, 28, played For Reasons Unknown with great aplomb in front of the 20,000-strong crowd at the Scottish stadium.

The confident musician caught the band's attention the previous night at the first of two gigs in the country.

Kyle held up a sign asking if he could drum, but had to wait until the next night to invited up by Brandon.

The Killers are one of the world's most popular bands

Speaking to Falkirk Live, the teacher admitted he was buzzing following the performance.

"I still can't believe this happened, and I can't stop watching all the videos," he gushed.

"This has been a lifetime dream and there are no words to describe what it means to me or how I actually feel."

He later told BBC : "It's all I ever wanted to do. The Killers were my biggest influence, it's because of them I took up the drums."
