Eddie Hassell dead: Teenager arrested in fatal shooting of Surface actor
Surface star Eddie Hassell, 30, was killed outside his girlfriend's apartment in Texas in what has now been called a 'random robbery' by police
An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of Eddie Hassell, who died on Sunday morning.
Eddie, 30, who is best known for his role in NBC's TV series Surface, was killed outside his girlfriend's apartment in Texas in what has now been called a "random robbery" by police.
D'Jon Antone was arrested "without incident" on Wednesday on a capital murder charge by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Grand Prairie Police Department, the department said.
It comes after police said they responded to a shooting at 1:50 a.m. Sunday morning and found Hassell suffering from gunshot wounds.
Hassell was then rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Mark Beseda, a spokesman for the Grand Prairie police, told the New York Times: "We believe that this was a robbery gone bad."
No further details have been released about the robbery, although a car was taken that did not belong to Hassell, Officer Beseda said.
The suspect is being held on a $500,000 bond in the Grand Prairie Detention Center, police confirmed.
Hassell's girlfriend Elizabeth Martin, a make-up artist, was inside the home at the time and did not see the attacker.
She posted a tribute to him on Instagram, writing: "You were dearer to me than all the bats in all the caves in the world @eddie_hassell. I loved you more than the sky in Texas.
"You made me more mad than anyone I've ever met, and I loved every ounce of you for it. Rest in Peace. You'll always have my heart."
In another post she added: "I'll see you on the other side of that skate barn in the sky, Cowboy. I'll always love you."
Eddie had starred in a number of TV shows such Devious Maids, The Kids Are All Right, Family Weekend.
