Former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews has addressed why he chose sobriety to help his marriage to model Vogue Williams
Reality TV star Spencer Matthews has revealed that he quit alcohol to save his relationship with wife Vogue Willaims.
The former Made in Chelsea cast member, 32, says that his relationship with Vogue, 34, was being pushed to a difficult point as a result of his drinking.
Speaking on a Tap Into Success webinar for Nicorette, Spencer opened up about his past issues, according to OK!.
He said: "There was a really good chance that my wife would have left me if I carried on drinking the way I was drinking.
"For the first time in my life I put her first. Usually the old me would have said, ‘Do you know what? Fine. If you don’t like it then get out.’
"I had this really kind of selfish ‘me before anyone else’ streak before.
"When I realised I cared more about her than I do perhaps myself, and that I was making her see less in me, that gave me a real burning desire to be better for her, initially."
Vogue herself admitted that he due to his behaviour then that Spencer "wasn’t the type of person I’d have liked to have been married to."
However, abandon those habits he did and the couple finally wed in June 2018 in the Scottish Highlands, with Spencer finally kicking his booze habits not long after.
"I feel like we have the most wonderful relationship," revealed Spencer.
"I can hear that she respects my opinion and respects me as an individual, and that is worth its weight in gold to me."
Spencer and Vogue are now parents to two children: Theodore, two, and seven-week-old Gigi.
The former womanizer added that becoming a parent has certainly brought about a positive change in him.
He added: "We’re very lucky to have a little boy and a little girl and [fatherhood] certainly makes you a more rounded individual."
Prior to his relationship with Vogue which began in 2017, Spencer dated Made in Chelsea cast members including Louise Thompson, Lucy Watson, and Stephanie Pratt.
