Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Realmforge Studios have announced the delay of Spacebase Startopia. The delay will allow the developer to continue polishing the game so that it meets players’ expectations.
Although the delay is disappointing, it means that Spacebase Startopia plans to launch in more countries and on additional platforms on launch dates. The game was previously not going to be released on all planned platforms on its original launch date.
Spacebase Startopia is a sci-fi space management simulation game. The game combines economic simulation with empire building. The game also offers RTS skirmishes plus plenty of humor built into the storyline. Players can either take on the challenge alone or take part in co-op multiplayer modes with up to four players.
Players are tasked with managing three Space Station Decks, entertaining eight Alien races, and fighting off the horses of enemy invaders trying to ruin the run. The game is narrated by a dynamic AI named “VAL” who makes news announcements and provides commentaries about the current events.
The single-player campaign contains ten fully-voiced missions. Outside of the campaign is an individually configurable sandbox mode for those who want to customize their experience. Players can build over 30 rooms across the three decks to provide for the visiting aliens. However, these unique creatures also have unique needs. Some will be happy with what’s provided, while others will be harder to please.
The decks include a Sub Deck with everything vital for survival. The Fun Deck is the ideal place for entertainment and fun activities. The Bio Deck contains flora and fauna that are essential resources for survival. This deck is also where the grace Dryads reside.
Outside of playing solo, the multiplayer options allow up to four players to either work together or compete. Players can either work together to produce and trade resources to make life easier for everyone, or sabotage missions against competitors. Solo players will also have to work against competitors to become the most popular ship in space.
The game is currently available for pre-order ahead of its launch next year. Players can either purchase the base game or Extended Edition. The Extended Edition on Steam contains instant Beta Access to begin playing the game in its current state right now. Buyers will also receive the digital soundtrack plus bonus content like special Alien hats, a decorative statue, and a Fuzzy skin.
Spacebase Startopia is now scheduled to launch in 2021 for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
