Some sportsbooks could remove football odds

Uncertainty around the timing of the college football season could lead to sportsbooks removing odds related to 2020 games and futures bets.

PointsBet is among the services planning to keep college football lines and futures bets active. As of Thursday morning, Clemson (+250) and Ohio State (+275) were still the betting favorites for the national championship and Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields (+250) had the edge over Trevor Lawrence of Clemson (+450) as the Heisman Trophy favorites. PointsBet director of communications Patrick Eichner said Thursday “we do not plan to pull CFB from site. If the season is ultimately canceled, all bets on CFB will be voided.”

Marquee games are also live through PointsBet.

Other books have reduced their offerings, subtracting games while offering Heisman odds and a straight yes-no bet on whether the 2020 season will be moved to the spring.

Odds for marquee games began being removed last week in the aftermath of the Big Ten and Pac-12 reducing their upcoming schedules to only conference games.

Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren cast further doubt on the prospects of the 2020 season days later, saying there is no guarantee football can be played this season.

The Ivy League and Patriot League postponed fall sports with the possibility of playing games in springtime, but no timeline has been established due to the evolving nature of the coronavirus pandemic. –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
