Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles And How She Felt Like It Was ‘Hopeless’

The singer, actress and businesswoman has been working hard while in quarantine but she is not done, this time around using her voice to talk about something many people out there are struggling with, perhaps now more than ever – mental health issues!

Selena Gomez got candid about her mental health during a new interview. The singer also discussed makeup and its power while promoting her Rare Beauty line.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Selena has been not very active when it comes to her career, releasing new music, a makeup line and even airing a brand new cooking show!

But mental health’s just as important to her which is why she is promoting self-acceptance with her Rare Beauty line.

During a chat with Bustle, the star dished that ‘It’s something I wanted to be much bigger than just makeup, because I believe that it is your mind and your body and your soul. The relationship with you and makeup should be healthy and fun and should be, in some cases, I have found, therapeutic. I have been doing this for so long. Having yourself be exposed — and that kind of went into my pre-teens, early 20s — and it was a lot about what I look like and the makeup that I would use.’

She noted that she does not look on the internet for news about herself anymore but that it definitely did not make her feel good when she did in the past.

The beauty line that was named after her single released back in January, includes no less than 48 different foundation and concealer shades, as well as a range of lip products, blushes and highlighters.

According to her, the products are made with the intent to ‘break down unrealistic standards of perfection and give people the tools they need to feel less alone in the world.’

As for her mental health struggles, Selena dished that ‘In the beginning it seemed hopeless. Sometimes it was even a challenge for me to get out of bed. The one thing I have never stopped doing is asking for help. That was the hardest part, but I believe that that is why I am stronger now.’
