Seahawks land S Jamal Adams from Jets

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a blockbuster deal on Saturday, acquiring disgruntled safety Jamal Adams from the New York Jets.

The Seahawks reportedly paid a hefty price, sending veteran safety Bradley McDougald, first-round draft picks the next two years and a third-round pick in 2021 to the Jets. Seattle also received a fourth-round pick in 2022 in return. The Seahawks confirmed the trade on Twitter.

The deal is pending physicals, and comes a day after Adams publicly criticized coach Adam Gase and general manager Joe Douglas.

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams told the New York Daily News of Gase. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.

“At the end of the day, he doesn’t address the team. If there’s a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we’re playing sh—y and we’re losing, he doesn’t address the entire team as a group at halftime. He’ll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it.”

The former first-round pick has been seeking a trade for months. The Texas native was openly interested in being dealt to the Dallas Cowboys, but finally received his ticket out of town in the way of the Seahawks.

After the deal was reported on Saturday, Adams tweeted: “To NY & especially the Jets fans: I love you & will always love you. You all will hold a special place in my heart forever. When I came into the league, you embraced me & watched me grow! We went through it all together. Thank you for the Luv & support these 3 years.”

Adams, 24, is due to earn $3.6 million between salary and bonuses this season and is under contract for $9.9 million next year after the Jets picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

The former LSU star is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who was also named first-team All-Pro last season.

Adams will step into the Seahawks’ lineup in place of McDougald and start opposite free safety Quandre Diggs, who was acquired from the Detroit Lions last year.

The Seahawks finished 27th against the pass last season, allowing 4,223 yards and 30 touchdowns through the air while recording only 10 interceptions. –Field Level Media ()
