Scott Thomas said that he will not 'spiral out of control' as he comes to terms with the tragic loss of his dad Dougie James.
Dougie - a soul singer and dad to Scott, Ryan and Adam Thomas - died at the end of November at the age of 72. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Love Island star Scott Thomas took to social media today to thank his fans for their support and also address how the family have been coping within the last week.
Sitting in his car, Scott explained that while he and his brothers are sad, everyone is doing OK.
He has also vowed to channel the emotion that he is feeling into keeping positive and active.
"I wanted to first of all thank everyone for the lovely messages for me and the boys, it means a lot. I'm OK, I know a lot of people are worried about me... It's just a very sad time and anyone who loses their dad knows how sad it is," Scott told his followers.
"But at the same time, I'm OK, I'm strong and I'm going to use this pain to drive me forward and channel it in the right way.
He added: "I'm not going to spiral out of control. I've been back trying to train... at the same time I'm going to take some time for myself as well because I know how important it is to get that space."
Scott and his brothers grew close to their dad last year when they all starred in the show Mancs in Mumbai.
Dougie then lived at Scott's home, and the television star said he was grateful to have had that time.
He continued: "I'm just really grateful for the time I got with my dad. I had the most amazing six months with him living under my roof. We had the best time ever and I'm just so grateful and I just can't believe how lucky I am to have had him there with me and I cherished every moment.
Later in the emotional clip, Scott urged his followers to try and stay close with their family.
"Make sure you take that time for your family, make sure you keep them close, thats my biggest lesson from this."
The Love Islander went on to add that his brothers are also OK but everyone is just feeling sad at the loss of their dad.
Scott, Ryan and Adam had a fraught relationship with their dad - who had walked out on the family when they were young.
Dougie only reappeared when the boys were already teenagers.
Last year, the trio were able to patch up their relationship when they embarked on a trip with their dad to India.
Titled Mancs in Mumbai, Dougie and his sons retraced the footsteps of grandfather Nolan - who had moved from India to the UK in 1947.
