Radio 1 announce Dean and Vicky are replacing Scott and Chris

Scott Mills teared up as he walked through memory lane during the last segments of his Radio 1 show.

The radio presenter, alongside Chris Stark, got emotional as they said their goodbyes to the station on Thursday afternoon.

He broke down in tears as he remembered the first time he appeared on radio 24 years ago and all the friends and family he made throughout.

"I never dreamed when I nervously went, 'Hi, I'm Scott Mills' for the first time but I'd still be here 24 years later, honestly, loads and loads has changed in that time," he began.

He explained how he did nearly 6,000 shows across early breakfast drive time, afternoons, and more. Scott also added that he's grateful that he didn't get the Breakfast show as he wouldn't be at the same place today.

Scott choked back tears during his goodbye speech

"And I, like millions of you, have grown up with radio one and whether you believe that I'm 35 or 48 or 49...the Reports vary. It's been more than half my life sitting here talking to you," Scott said.

"And in that time, I've publicly come out and I met some my best friends like the ones sitting opposite me and had breakups and found love and lost it again sometimes, and said hello and goodbye to family and every low this show has got me through and every high I've been lucky enough to celebrate has been here

"Radio One has been the constant through all of this," he said. "...And over the last month, people have sent immensely kind messages about what the show has meant to them. And the truth is everything we've meant to you, you've meant to me."

He also thanked his family, colleagues, Chris, and his partner Sam.

Ten minutes earlier, Chris also had the opportunity to read out his emotional goodbye message.

Both are embarking on a brand new journey, with Chris joining Roman Kemp on his Capital Breakfast show and Scott moving to BBC Radio 2 to take over from Steve Wright.

Chris took the time to pay tribute to his loved ones and say 'I love you' to long-time friend Scott.

"It's the last show and I know so many millions of people are listening to this right now so just feels like if I can shout out certain people this is the moment to do it, but I just want to quickly shout my family who've always supported me," he said with a shaky voice.

He went on to discuss how he started off - his mum and dad dropping him off at Hospital Radio all those years ago.

After thanking his family, children, friends and colleague, he moved on to an emotional tribute for Scott.

"I can't concisely say what I would like to say about how I feel. But you know this, I think you're the best. I'm so proud of you in so many ways that people know in so many ways that people won't know," he began.

"And it's weird radio one in there for us but we couldn't have done any better. And that was the plan. We didn't want to leave anything behind.

"It's all there this show is, I would like to think, one of the best shows it's ever been on radio and we're proud enough to say that. It's a big day. But I'd like to think we did it right. I love you mate."

And finally, after many years, Scott and Chris said their goodbyes with one final song - One Direction's Night Changes.
