Phillip Schofield did what any sun worshipping holidayer would do and used his time off work to dress up as Father Christmas before giving a middle finger.

The 58-year-old This Morning host has been given a few weeks off from TV screens and it looks like he is using the time well.

Schofe wasn't looking overly jolly as Santa Claus, as a furrowed brow and his rude hand gesture had his followers confused after he posted the image on his Instagram Story.

He shared two photos on social media, with the first seeing him being lit up by lights around a dressing table while looking sternly into the camera.

In his other hand, he is holding what looks like a script, at a hint at what he has been up to while taking time away from the ITV daytime show.

As if to confirm the unusual image, he captioned the photo with a laughing face emoji and writing: "What a peculiar week."

In the second photo, he has pulled his false white beard down as he spoke on the phone to his This Morning co-host.

He wrote on the photo: "On the phone to @hollywilloughby"

It didn't look like the conversation had improved his mood as he continued to look miffed, amid rumours that Holly is going to call time on their 11-year presenting partnership.

Holly has been holidaying in Portugal but has had to cut short her trip due to quarantine rules changing in the UK, leading her to self-isolating for two weeks before returning to the TV studio.

ITV have confirmed that Holly will be coming back to This Morning a week earlier than planned, making her return on September 1 rather than September 7 she was originally due back on.

Holly has had to leave her family at the luxury Quinta do Lago resort on the Algarve after spending five weeks there.

With her return now imminent, a source has told The Sun : "Holly accepts that she has to go into quarantine and will follow the rules.

"The summer break is her chance to re-charge after a hectic period and to spend time with her family.

"After all the stresses of the pandemic she had been looking forward to relaxing as long as possible."
