Scarlett Moffatt has shown off her party planning skills after surprising her mum with an epic garden bash for her 50th birthday.

The reality star, who found fame alongside mum Betty Moffatt on Gogglebox, threw her a lavish shindig to celebrate the landmark birthday with the help of dad Mark and sister Ava.

With coronavirus restrictions still in place, Betty could only celebrate with 30 people, so her family picked their closest friends to spend the evening with.

The first big surprise for the Gogglebox star was an inflatable pop-up pub in their garden, featuring a real bar, staff to pour drinks and fairy lights for a chilled out atmosphere.

The Moffatts then presented Betty with her birthday cake - an incredible gold and black two-tiered creation topped with a chocolate champagne bottle, fondant cigars, an edible top hat and feathery decorations to make it look like it had come straight from a Chicago speakeasy in the 1920s.

Balloons surrounded the showstopping cake and no doubt Betty couldn't wait to get stuck into it.

Scarlett and her helpers had also lined up plenty of food to keep the revellers going, and the kitchen worktops groaned under the weight of the plates of delicious cold snacks.

Catered sandwiches, sausage rolls and other party food was on display, while hot treats were kept warm in giant covered metal dishes.

Betty couldn't wipe the smile off her face all night as she danced and sang with all her pals, including Scarlett's boyfriend Scott Dobby.

And that wasn't even the start of it, as Scarlett had organised live music to entertain the guests.

A swing dancer and live keyboardist serenaded Betty from the corner of the living room as everyone sang along, before the night really got started with a disco.

Betty's celebrity crush Robert De Niro even made it to the party in the form of a cardboard cut-out, which Betty posed with while showing off her sleek makeover.

The reality star has ditched her old look and transformed herself with honey blonde hair and professional makeup, and looked happier and healthier than ever.

As the music kicked off, the guests started dancing around their living room - with Scarlett showing off her ballroom skills from her years of training when she was a child.

A few of them headed back outside to the inflatable pub where there was a silent disco on offer.

And it wasn't long before Betty found herself suitably refreshed enough to hop up on a chair alongside her daughter to belt out the lyrics to Every Time We Touch while the pair danced wildly to the disco lighting.

Betty looked gorgeous in black skinny jeans, a matching silk camisole top and a cream blazer, while her husband Mark kept it casual in a pale blue shirt and grey jeans.

Scarlett, meanwhile, couldn't decide on a party look and tried on three different outfits before deciding on a black printed mini-dress.

Scarlett joked her little sister Ava "looks slightly different to what she did on the Gogglebox sofa" as she pointed out her sibling is now a teenager.

She added: "My mama's surprise 50th. Here's a little sneak peek at how it went.

"Was hard only having 30 guests (due to Covid) but I still think I should become a party planner."
