Sacha Baron Cohen hits out at Rudy Giuliani over controversial Borat 2 clip

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen has hit out at Rudolph 'Rudy' Giuliani after his criticism of the new Borat sequel.

The personal attorney of President Donald Trump and former New York City mayor, 76, has hit out at Baron Cohen's Borat Subsequent Moviefilm for scenes in which he himself features.

In the film, Giuliani is interviewed by Borat's fictional daughter Tutar, played by actress Maria Bakalova, where he compliments her on her looks, holds her hand and then enters a bedroom with her.

The lawyer is shown appearing to recline on a bed with his hands down his trousers.

As the scene emerged went viral, Giuliani furiously denied that anything "inappropriate" had happened and that he was actually tucking his shirt into his trousers.

Now after being referred to by Giuliani as a "stone-cold liar", Baron Cohen, 49, hit out further at the behaviour of the former New York City mayor.

Baron Cohen told ABC's Good Morning America : "I would say that if the president's lawyer found what he did there appropriate behaviour, then heaven knows what he has done with other female journalists in hotel rooms.

"I urge everyone to watch the movie. It is what it is, he did what he did."

He added: "Make your own mind up. It was pretty clear to us."

The comments come after Giuliani's tweets where he condemned any interpretation of his behaviour as 'inappropriate' and also argued any interpretation otherwise was politically motivated.

Giuliani tweeted on Wednesday: "The Borat video is a complete fabrication. I was tucking in my shirt after taking off the recording equipment.

"At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise he is a stone-cold liar."

He went on to add: "This is an effort to blunt my relentless exposure of the criminality and depravity of Joe Biden and his entire family."

The lawyer also told WABC radio on Wednesday: "The idiot Borat is going after me with a totally sensationalised false account of a ridiculous movie, I guess, he has done."

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
