Russell Brand warns of imposter using his name to heartlessly scam charities

Comedian and YouTuber Russel Brand has taken to Twitter to speak out as he claims an imposter has been using his name to scam charities

Television personality Russell Brand has warned of an imposter using his name to scam charities.

The YouTube star and comedian, 45, took to Twitter to warn his followers about an apparent con.

Russell wrote: "There's someone pretending to be me using the email russellbrand@gmail.com asking people to donate to fake charities and scamming them for money.

"If you want to know the charities I'm affiliated with they're listed on my website. Be aware of anyone contacting you for money!"

It doesn't appear to be the first time someone has claimed to be Russell, either!

A fan named Cheryl replied Russell's tweet: "theres also another Russell Brand on twitter with your exact page cos I was followed by it briefly!

"That was back in July I think,I didnt go on it cos I realised it wasnt authentic."

Meanwhile, another follower commented:" Yes I got that email! so many scammers everywhere these days & not just celebrities !! God bless you! Love your messages!"

Elsewhere, one fan thanked Russell, writing: "Thank you for speaking out & raising awareness A few have tried messaging me & I have fun til they ask for money. Block and report."

The scam comes as Russell himself has faced criticism for a video he posted where he analysed the music video for WAP (ft. Megan Thee Stallion) by rapper Cardi B.

In the video, entitled WAP: Feminist Masterpiece or Porn?, Russell questioned the feminist credentials of the video.

He accused it of being "an emulation of a template that already exists and was established by males", before asking: "Is it equality if the template has already been established by a formal dominator?"

He then concludes: "The answer is no."

However, many responded to his comments by accusing him of 'mansplaining' feminism to women and ignoring the sex-positive messages of the video.

One Twitter user replied to Russell sharing the video, commenting: "The assumption that women creating work that speaks to THEIR sexuality & agency within that is emulating a male template is reductive.

"Subversion is not antifeminisst. They're offering something powerful to the world. Lift it up or move aside. Also- noone asked ya x".

Another echoed the sentiment, writing: "I don’t agree. They are upholding and promoting feminism by pursuing their career and making records and videos as they see fit.

"Do any of the male@artists have to think about this s**t? No. Do they have to be furthering the feminist cause? No. Then why does Cardi B?".

Finally, another female Twitter user concluded: |I’m always in awe of men who pass opinions on what they consider to be feminism.

"When will the male gender learn that that entrenched arrogance to feel entitled to an opinion about women and women’s issues, simply further substantiates the patriarchal construct."

Well, things are certainly never quiet when Russell is around!
