Roman Kemp takes temporary break from Capital FM following death of close friend
The Capital breakfast show host is said to be 'devastated' by the loss and has been granted time away from day job
Roman Kemp is reportedly taking a break from his Capital FM breakfast show following the death of a close friend.
Earlier today, listeners were left confused when Roman and his colleagues Sian Welby and Sonny Jay mysteriously came off air during their live broadcast.
It has now been explained that the trio were being informed of the tragic news about someone they used to work with.
An industry source disclosed to The Sun: “Roman and his colleagues are in complete shock, they can’t believe someone they were all close to is gone.
“They’ve all been left completely shattered by the upsetting news and are taking some time to grieve and digest the tragedy.
"It’s a tough time for them all right now.”
Listeners had taken to social media to ask what had happened to Roman after he seemed to disappear this morning following an interview with Little Mix.
Roman, 27, has now been granted leave by studio bosses with stand-in hosts Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield filling in for the rest of the week.
The son of Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp has turned the Breakfast show into a huge success for the station and regularly pulls in four million listeners to his weekday broadcasts.
Roman was handed the reigns to the national Breakfast show last year, along with co-host Sonny Jay - who is still presenting - and Vick Hope who quit in February this year to be replaced by Sian Welby.
Vick's shock departure was announced by Roman live on air as he told listeners: "You may have noticed that Vick Hope isn’t here today. It may come to you as a bit of surprise, but Vick has left Capital Breakfast."
He went on to explain his co-star had decided to leave the station because she’s had some exciting TV opportunities.
In June, Roman and his dad Martin launched their own show Martin and Roman's Sunday Best! on ITV back in June.
