Aaron Rodgers had another three-touchdown night, the Green Bay Packers picked up their third win and sportsbooks are standing at attention.
Rodgers moved to +1400 in MVP odds at BetMGM but faces a long road to close on favorite Russell Wilson. The Seahawks quarterback has 14 touchdown passes, Seattle is unbeaten and universally he has jumped to the front of the 2020 MVP odds race at a measly +275 (FanDuel, BetMGM, DraftKings). Lamar Jackson (+500, BetMGM) and Patrick Mahomes (+600) hadn’t lost entering their head-to-head Monday Night Football main event for Week 3. The past two league MVPs have overwhelming division championship favorite odds — Kansas City is a ridiculous -667 at BetMGM to take the AFC West, for example — and Green Bay is moving in the same direction.
AFC power duo remains the popular choiceKansas City and Baltimore were +500 to win Super Bowl LV via DraftKings, FanDuel and Action Network after Week 2.
The Packers started the season as the second favorite in the NFC North at DraftKings and PointsBet to the currently winless Minnesota Vikings.
Injuries and a porous defense put Minnesota in an 0-3 hole, including a loss to the Packers in Week 1.
Green Bay is at -176 to win the North at BetMGM and spiked to +1600 to win the Super Bowl at multiple books.
Rodgers is not on Wilson’s record TD pace but after being dismissed in a wave of offseason negativity — Green Bay didn’t draft much help and missed at wide receiver entirely, instead taking a quarterback in the first round — the rest of the North is fading early. Not many books are buying the Bears, who have two wins by virtue of 20-point fourth-quarter rallies on the road (Detroit, Atlanta) and are otherwise untested.
Rodgers should be fine in the near future, too, building his case. Up next is the Falcons’ downtrodden defense, scorched by Wilson in Week 1, Dak Prescott in Week 2 and mostly Nick Foles for the Bears on Sunday.
Will the rugged NFC West catch up to the Seahawks?
Arizona, San Francisco and the Los Angeles Rams are all 2-1.
Seattle and Wilson can continue building a favorite’s case with the 1-2 Miami Dolphins and Vikings up next before facing the Cardinals, 49ers and Bills in successive weeks.
