Robbie Williams has told how his wife witnessed a mugging when he took her on a tour of his hometown.

The ex-Take That singer said Ayda Field had at first been impressed as they sat with their children in a park in Stoke-on-Trent.

But moments later they saw a yob punch a man and steal his bike.

Speaking on the Lockdown Parenting Hell podcast yesterday Robbie, 46, said he had shown his American wife around the town where he grew up.

He said: "I went with Ayda and the kids when they were in pushchairs, and we went to the local park - Tunstall Park [in Stoke].

"Ayda was just sort of like, 'This is so idyllic, you said it was rough? I don't understand?'

"As the words left her mouth, some young man went up to another young man on the tennis court, punched him in the face, and rode off on his mountain bike.

"I was like, 'There you go'."

Ayda added: “It literally was out of a movie, because I was practically spinning around the fields, going, 'This is just so pretty, babe'.

"Just as my eyes cast a glance at the little basketball tennis area, this kid just punched this other kid and went off with his s***.

"I was like, 'Ok, no.' But we would like to spend more time with the kids in Stoke... their grandparents are there.”

Robbie added: "Ayda has never lived in a house where she hasn't had her own en-suite in her own room.

"Having said that, Ayda was like, poor for Beverly Hills.

"But in Stoke-on-Trent, she would have been the Queen of Stoke-on-Trent. It’s all relative."
