The Resident Evil franchise has been on a tear as of late. It all started with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and was continued with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Now, Capcom is poised to continue where they left off in Biohazard with Resident Evil Village.
Rumors have circulated about this game for quite a while. There were reports of there being a castle, werewolves, and some sort of witch. Most of these rumors have turned out to be pretty true as indicated in the first teaser trailer. Now, a new trailer is available that came from today’s PlayStation 5 event.
We see Chris Redfield with some special ops soldiers. It looks like they’ve restrained Ethan Winters for some reason, although it’s probably because of his interactions with the mutating virus from the previous installment.
It then shows the much-talked about witch. She’s pretty creepy to be honest. You can tell something isn’t quite right with her. Is she a helpful companion that aids Ethan throughout these plagued forests or is she a harbinger of bad things to come?
We then see some of the game’s enemies, which resemble some sort of mutated werewolf beasts. They look to have a veracious appetite for human flesh so you’ll have to be on guard the entire time when traveling on foot.
Other notable elements that stand out from this trailer is Mia as an older woman. She tells some sort of folktale about a girl getting lost in the woods. The visuals that depict this sequence have a very Tim Burton feel.
Then we see cult-like themes and a giant castle at the end. It’s clear Resident Evil Village is taking a pretty different direction as far as storytelling goes. That’s a good thing because it instantly gives this storied franchise a fresh perspective. It’s still continuing the story of Ethan and Mia, but putting a lot of emphasis on folklore and urban legend.
There are a lot of fans excited about the future of the Resident Evil franchise and Village looks like one of the more unique installments. Like Biohazard, it has first-person visuals. They really immerse you in the creepy atmosphere that Capcom has nailed down beautifully based on this recent trailer.
The game is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2021, but hopefully before then, we see more trailers like this that give players an idea of the epic and foreboding adventure that awaits.
