Brain May has credited his wife Anita Dobson with 'saving his life' after the Queen rocker suffered complications following his heart attack.

The 73-year-old star, who suffered a near-fatal heart attack in May, recalled how Anita, 71, did everything for him after his health scare and nursed the guitarist back to health.

Brian, who is still shielding at his Surrey home, had nothing but praise for his 'incredible' wife and added that he was 'forever in her debt'.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Brian spoke candidly about his near-death experience and explained that the medication he had been prescribed after his heart attack 'nearly killed' him.

He also revealed that while the cause of his heart attack remained a 'mystery,' the musician believes it could have been linked to coronavirus.

Brian told the Express: “I think it’s possible that I had the COVID virus early on in the tour of Korea, Japan and Australia in January, and got through it, but it’s thickened the blood, which apparently it does, and that could have been the trigger that gave me the heart attack."

“I thought it was too early to get [COVID] but the evidence now seems to be that the virus was around.”

The star also pointed out that he seldom drinks or eats fatty food, so that was not linked to his heart attack.

Following his heart attack, Brian had three stent tubes fitted into his arteries to help his blood flow.

The Queen star went on to praise Anita for helping him get back into a healthy routine as he recovered.

"She was incredible. She totally saved my life because I couldn't do anything and she just kind of nursed me, so I will forever be in her debt. She did an incredible job on me."

Brian, who has been married to former EastEnders actress Anita for 20 years, was reeling from an unrelated gardening accident when he suffered the heart attack in Spring.

Despite the incident, Brian has since promised fans that he's ready to return to making music.

"I’ve walked out with a heart that’s very strong – I feel I’m in good shape for years to come,” he said following his heart attack.

As well a praising medics, he added: "Anyway, I didn’t die. I’m incredibly grateful that I now have a life to lead again. I’m good, I’m here, and I’m ready to rock.”
