Piers Morgan teased Simon Cowell after his nasty electric bike accident put him in hospital over the weekend.

The 55-year-old This Morning presenter didn't hold back and took a savage swipe at his former Britain's Got Talent co-star after hearing the news.

Piers' message came just two days after Simon reportedly broke his back in a horrific electric bike accident while practicing at his home in Malibu.

The X Factor judge was taken to hospital and underwent six hours of surgery after breaking part of his back in the incident.

After Simon admitted to fans that he didn't read the manual before getting on his new electric bike, Piers took to Twitter with his hilarious response.

"Stick to that Zimmer Frame I got you in future - it's more age-appropriate. Glad you're through to the next round," Piers joked.

Sharing the message with his 7.6 million Twitter followers, Piers' post was quickly flooded with replies from his fans.

"Can't wait to hear what David Walliams has to say. Oh my poor Simon!" one follower penned.

Another took a more serious tone, writing: "I dont think its a time to joke about zimmer frames to a man with a broken back, even if he does fully recover."

Although Piers teased Simon today, the often outspoken television star had also shared an earlier message that offered a more concerned tone.

"So sorry to hear this. Sounds a very nasty accident. I wish Simon a successful operation and a full & speedy recovery," Piers wrote yesterday.

It's certainly not the first time that Piers and Simon have teased each other on social media.

Back in April, Piers mocked Simon about how he had aged since Britain's Got Talent came on TV.

Although Piers no longer stars on the BGT panel, he shared a throwback picture of the judges to mark the launch of the latest season.

Alongside the snap, Piers joked: "I may not look as though I’ve aged the best but I’m the only one who’s aged as God intended…”
