Piers Morgan has blasted Kim Kardashian as a "tone-deaf imbecile" after she jetted off to a private island to ring in her 40s amid an ongoing pandemic.

The outspoken Good Morning Britain host, 55, was foaming at the mouth with rage after Kim shared snaps from her tropical getaway.

Revealing she had taken close friends and family on the trip, Kim wrote: "40 and feeling so humbled and blessed.

"There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter."

But the "tone-deaf" comment didn't sit well with Piers, who instantly hit out at the mum-of-four in a stern response.

Piers wrote: "This thread is so repulsive it makes me want to vomit. Not that we needed confirmation but what a spoiled, tone-deaf imbecile."

Alongside a string of snaps from the luxe retreat, Kim gushed about how lucky she felt to be able to get away on holiday with loved ones amid the pandemic.

Kim wrote: "For my birthday this year, I couldn't think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today."

"Before COVID, I don't think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment," she penned.

"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time."

She added: "We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more.

"I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40."

Many fans took to the comments praising Kim for recognising her privilege - while others hit out at the star over the "disgustingly tone deaf" tweets.

Kim's critics particularly focused on the US death toll during the pandemic, now at around 226,000, while others lamented the non-essential travel ban in California.

The ban does not apply to Kim after her guests quarantined and used a private plane.
