Piers Morgan has slammed a conspiracy theorist who accused him of being funded by Bill Gates.

The Good Morning Britain host has been a vocal critic of the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which has convinced conspiracy theorists that he has ulterior motive.

A Twitter user asked him how much money he'd received from billionaire Gates, leading to Piers branding him a "village idiot" and joking that he'd received $1billion in funding from Gates.

One of the most enduring conspiracy theories about the vaccine is that it contains a microchip that lets Gates track people, which is, of course, absolute nonsense.

The conspiracy theorist tweeted: "@piersmorgan how much of that gates money u received..."

Piers mercilessly quote tweeted the post with a cutting response.

He wrote: "Hi Wayne, yes, @BillGates paid me $1billion to big up the vaccines so that we could implant a chip inside you, control your brain, & turn you into a village idiot.

"And it's clearly working!"

It comes after Piers broke his silence after his friend Kay Burley broke lockdown rules on her 60th birthday bash.

Kay apologised after "inadvertently breaking the rules" when she hosted a party and used the toilet in a different restuarant.

Speaking on GMB earlier this week, Piers said: "We should talk about this, even if they are friends of ours.

"My view would be - and I'm sure Kay's view would be if she was talking about this, which she isn't at the moment - is that we should be held to account, in my opinion.
