Phillip Schofield has shared his heartbreak after the death of his former colleague.

The This Morning host, 58, took to his Twitter account on Friday night to share the sad news that musical director Kate Young, who he had worked with when he starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the nineties, has passed away.

He described Kate as "Kind, funny, so talented, wonderfully bonkers and totally delightful", as he sent his love to her family.

Phil also shared an old picture of Kate, perhaps from the time when they worked together, with his 4.5 million Twitter followers in the post.

He tweeted: "Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Kate Young @katarinageo who was one of my musical directors during my Joseph years.

"Kind, funny, so talented, wonderfully bonkers and totally delightful.

"So sad.

"All my love to her family."

Phil took over the main role as Joseph from Jason Donovan in 1991.

He played the part until 1997, and then went on to have the main role in Doctor Dolittle from 1998 to 1999.

Phil joined This Morning in 2002, first presenting alongside Fern Britton.

Since 2009 he has hosted the ITV show with Holly Willoughby,.
