The PGA Tour announced Monday that live betting odds will be incorporated into the Golf Channel telecast of The CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek this week and they will be supplied by BetMGM.
It is the second consecutive week the PGA Tour players will compete at Las Vegas, following last week’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin, won by Martin Laird in a three-way playoff. Betting odds were not used in the telecast of that event. “The focus of our sports betting partnerships is to engage fans in new and creative ways,” PGA Tour senior vice president of media and gaming Norb Gambuzza said. “As an element of that strategy, we began integrating live odds onto Tour digital platforms in August and now we look forward to learning from this first-time test in a live telecast.”
Previously, PGA Tour Live incorporated live betting odds for the opening two rounds of the Wyndham Championship in August. PGA Tour Live is a direct-to-consumer subscription video service.
The CJ Cup was contested each of the last three years in South Korea but was moved to the United States this year as a concession to the COVID-19 pandemic. Justin Thomas is a two-time winner, while Brooks Koepka won in 2018.
Twice an hour, the leaderboards on the Golf Channel telecast will include win odds, head-to-head odds, top finishes, winning margin and the probability of a hole in one. There will also be early odds for a wire-to-wire winner, as well as odds for a playoff. BetMGM became an official betting operator of the PGA Tour in August. Other betting operators with partnerships across the sports landscape include DraftKings, FanDuel, Fox Bet, William Hill, Points Bet and Caesars.
Betting partnerships have increased since 2018 when the United States Supreme Court repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992.
