Padma Lakshmi Says Kamala Harris Embodies The Opposite To Donald Trump’s Racist Message – Details!

Padma Lakshmi was more than happy to find out that Kamala Harris is now the new VP! As far as she’s concerned, this gives Kamala the opportunity to officially put an end to Trump’s era of openly showing racism.

With that being said, she was apparently so overjoyed that she ‘burst out in tears,’ one big reason for her emotional reaction being the fact that it felt like Kamala’s victory shows ‘girls and women of color’ can ‘achieve absolutely anything.’

Padma Lakshmi shared her thoughts in an opinion piece for The New York Times, revealing that she was on a hike when she learned about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris winning the election against Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

She made sure to detail her feelings in that moment, sharing that: ‘I felt a heat welling up in my chest up into my throat, and it burst out in tears I couldn’t control. At first, I did not even know why I was sobbing. Finally, a woman, a woman of color, takes the office. I cried again when I watched Ms. Harris address the country last weekend as the vice president elect.’

‘The world finally saw a Black woman, whose parents came from Jamaica and India, near true American power. That vision seemed to evaporate some of the hurdles I’d faced, making a different path for a child like me growing up nowadays. Now Ms. Harris will have a new authority and reach as the vice president. The Trump era she’s ending empowered people to show their racism nakedly, in slights and jeers and acts of violence.’

Padma stressed that for many immigrants and other POCs in America, the message Trump, his administration and supporters sent was clear – that they don’t belong, nor are they wanted in the USA.
