A few hours before Paddy McGuinness and Christine announced their split online, they shared a sweet snap of their family holiday.

Top Gear host Paddy took to his Instagram to share a selfie taken with the model as they enjoyed a cabin trip.

Both Paddy and Christine smiled for the snap, but body language expert Judi James claims his smile looks 'forced'.

"This looks like any other happy holiday snap until you keep in context the people it features," she said. "Paddy is the extrovert, cheery guy who has always looked very much like the star we see on the TV.

"His smile is his trademark on and off the screen, which makes this truncated and unconvincing ‘smile’ look forced and out of character."

She added: "It’s as though he is trying to smile for the camera and failing. Christine is, again unusually, walking away from the camera rather than joining Paddy to create a ‘couples’ pose for social media.

"Celebrity (and real-life) couples can go through all sorts of tiffs and splits but the selfie usually creates a ‘Pavlov’s dog’ response, where the bunching of heads and wide social smiles are automatic, even for a few seconds. Not so here though."

Paddy explained to fans in the caption of the selfie that the family 'finally' got a family getaway and that the children - Penelope, Leo and Felicity - enjoyed themselves at the treehouse cabin at Centre Parcs.

There had been speculation over the couple's marriage in recent weeks, and the duo finally confirmed their split a couple of hours after he shared the photo.

Following the family trip, which was understood to be a 'make or break' holiday for the pair, the couple revealed they have in fact been separated for some time.

Despite the split, the couple will continue to live in the same house together as they co-parent their three children, all of whom have been diagnosed with autism.

The duo were together for 15 years

Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine, 34, and husband Paddy, 48, announced the news in a statement, which both Christine and Paddy had shared on their Instagram stories.

The couple wrote: "We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

"A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus was as always is to continue loving and supporting our children.

"This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children.

"We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together."
