The Crown’s Olivia Colman is joined by fellow showbiz royalty as she stars in her first pantomime and promises to deliver festive fun.

The Oscar-winning actress, who plays the Queen in the Netflix hit, will be the fairy godmother in a socially distanced BBC Cinderella for Comic Relief.

The Crown co-star Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Princess Margaret, will be the wicked stepmother Lady Devilia.

Tom Hollander, Olivia’s co-star in BBC sitcom Rev, is Baron Hardup while comedian Guz Khan is Buttons.

Real-life brother and sister Daisy May and Charlie Cooper, stars of This Country, are the evil step-sisters in the show, which is set to go out at 8.15pm on Christmas Eve.

The starry special will be performed virtually with each of the stars playing their part from the safety of their own home. To enhance the story for children, Quentin Blake has created special illustrations for key scenes.

Comic Relief founder Richard Curtis said: “We’re hugely grateful to BBC2 and the amazing cast for allowing us to do our first-ever pantomime.”

BBC2 boss Patrick Holland said: “This is a unique surprise at the end of a year when we all need cheering up.
