New England Patriots Make a Late Rally to Beat the Hopeless New York Jets, 30-27

After a lot of trouble, the New England Patriots have defeated the New York Jets, avoiding what would be one of the most unpleasant defeats in the last couple of years. The final result of this Monday Night matchup was 30-27 for the Pats, who rallied back in the final period scoring 13 straight points.

The final hit was delivered by Nick Folk, who scored a field goal from 51-yards as time expired, handing his team an important victory in the playoff race.

But Pats didn’t come back because of their good play, but because of the Jets’ mistakes. And that is what frightens New England’s fanbase.

Joe Flacco, who was orchestrating the hosts’ offense very well, threw an unreasonable pick on a first down, with 6:04 to go, in the moments when his team had a 27-20 advantage. The only thing a former Super Bowl champion needed to do is hold the football as much as possible and not give it away on a first snap of the possession. He wanted a deep pass, and JC Jackson saw that coming, getting the football and extending the hosts’ momentum.

On the very next drive, the Pats have tied the game with Cam Newton’s one-yard rush, and then their defense forced the Jets to go three-and-out, handing the ball back to New England, who had Folk as their savior.

Cam Newton was 27 of 35, for 274 yards without any touchdowns and interceptions, avoiding all sack attempts. However, Newton added two TDs on the ground, and along with Rex Burkhead’s one, those were the only scores for the guests in this one.

Fantastic Jacobi Meyers had 12 receptions for 169 yards, the longest one 33 yards, while Damiere Byrd added 65. Damien Harris rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries.

On the other side, Flacco was very good up until the end, completing 18 of his 25 passes for three touchdowns and one pick. Breshad Perriman caught five of those passes for 101 yards, Denzel Mism four for 62. Veteran Frank Gore ran 12 times for 46 yards.

Up next, the Jets, who are winless following nine rounds, visit LA and the Chargers before coming back home to await the divisional rivals, Miami Dolphins.

The Pats, who are 3-5, are hosting the Baltimore Ravens the following week, and after that head to Houston to play against the Texans.
