The trailer for Netflix's upcoming romantic thriller Rebecca has left fans "extremely horny".

The film is the latest adaptation of the classic novel by author Daphne du Maurier and is directed by High Rise helmer Ben Wheatley.

Rebecca follows a sweet young woman ( Lily James ) and her fledging romance with hunky rich widower Maxim de Winter ( Armie Hammer ) on the French Riviera.

However, as she becomes the new Mrs de Winter, the sunny romance takes a dark turn as the couple arrive at Maxim's stately home of Manderlay.

Inside the house, the new Mrs de Winter finds a place haunted by the memory of Maxim's beautiful first wife, Rebecca, which is kept alive by the severe maid of the house, Mrs Danvers ( Kristin Scott Thomas ).

The film also stars Sam Riley, Keeley Hawes and Ann Dowd.

Despite the dark subject matter in the story, however, fans on social media have been left very hot and flustered by the steamier scenes between Lily James and Armie Hammer as they roll around together in the sun.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "What an extremely horny trailer. i for one am VERY excited to watch this."

Another person commented: "50 shades of grey but make it scary #rebecca#rebeccanetflix."

Meanwhile, one excited Twitter user revealed: "This du maurier adaptation starring lily james and armie hammer was created in a laboratory to make me, specifically, very horny."

Elsewhere, another fan of the trailer wrote: "It’s not gonna be good but I’m gonna watch it and get horny af anyway."

Finally, one future viewer concluded: "Omg it looks absolutely amazing!!! I'm super excited to see it!!!"

Well, we shall have to wait and see if it lives up to the hype!

The novel Rebecca was previously adapted by legendary director Alfred Hitchcock for 1940 film starring Joan Fontaine as the new Mrs de Winter, Laurence Olivier as Maxim de Winter, and Judith Anderson as Mrs Danvers.

It was the only Hitchcock film to take home Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Rebecca is released on Netflix on October 21, 2020
