This Tuesday night was very eventful for the NCAA basketball fans. There were some big games around the country.

In one of them, the No.6 Illinois defeated No.10 Duke, 83-68, making a statement that will undoubtedly be heard throughout the entire NCAA. Fighting Illini took the lead right from the start, and the only thing the Blue Devils could do throughout the whole contest is to level the score at 2-2. Everything else was about Illinois.

The guests’ biggest lead was 19 points, they shot 58% from the field, hitting seven threes in 11 attempts, while Duke had five in 22. The result at the halftime was 43-29 for Illinois, and it was obvious at that point that Mike Krzyzewski’s side isn’t capable of doing any damage to the visitors.

Ayo Dosunmu had 18 points with 12 boards and five assists for Fighting Illini, and five more of his teammates had 10 or more points. On the other side, Matthew Hurt scored 19 and had seven boards.

One other team made a statement, No.3 Iowa, who was routine against No.16 Tar Heels, 93-80. The Hawkeyes allowed NC to reach the lead once, midway through the second, losing its double-digit lead, but that was just a minor slowdown, as hosts responded immediately, trashing the guests until the end.

Jordan Bohannon had 24 points and six dimes, for the winners. CJ Fredrick added 21, and Joe Wieskamp 19. Luka Garza didn’t have his usual night but still posted excellent numbers with 16 points, 14 boards, and 4 rejections. Iowa made 17 threes in tonight’s event.

Marcus Zegarowski missed a free-throw that could tie the game between his No.8 Creighton and Kansas. Previously, the preseason Big East Player of the year, hit two shots from the line, but when needed the most, Zegarowski choked, handing the No.5 Jayhawks a 73-72 victory.

It was a big win for Kansas, coming following a roller coaster, especially in the second half. Two teams played in waves, but in the end, the Jayhawks ended up on the winning side. Jalen Wilson was shining with 23 points and 10 rebounds, shooting threes 4-for-6. Christian Braun had 14 points, and David McCormack 13.
