Recently, filming for Sony‘s upcoming Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, resumed filming, as the film, which will serve as an origin story to the games, is currently scheduled to be released in July of next year if everything goes to plan.
Earlier this week, Holland tweeted out that he had just been visited by Neil Druckmann, who is the vice president at Naughty Dog, who are the developers behind the Uncharted video game franchise. Naturally, Holland only had positive things to say about the visit and was hopeful that the Naughty Dog exec approves of everything they’re doing with the movie.

Recently, there were photos that surfaced from the Uncharted movie set showing Mark Wahlberg, who is playing the role of Nathan’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, and in the photos, the actor looked more like himself than he did the character that he’s portraying. You can check out the images below.

Also, during an interview with IGN, Holland said that you don’t need to know anything about the games to enjoy the movie, as the upcoming Uncharted film will serve as an origin story for Nathan Drake, which likely means that a lot of the noteworthy characters from the games, specifically Elena Fisher, won’t be featured in the movie.
“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”
If the movie is successful, Tom Holland wants Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to play the villain in the sequel. So, we’ll see what happens.
But, for now, all we know is that the Uncharted movie is currently scheduled to be released in July of next year.
